Latin for Children, Primer A Program

Why Latin?

Latin for Children Series

In its thirteenth year, the Latin for Children curriculum continues to be a strong, inviting, and creative program designed to introduce students as young as fourth grade to Latin. It incorporates elements that will engage students of every learning style. As a step beyond just an exposure to the language, when used as a whole, this series trains students in grammar, vocabulary, and English derivatives in a lively, interactive way that is perfectly suited to students in the grammar stage. The Latin for Children series is taught directly to the child and is a perfect choice for teachers and parents, including those who will be learning along with their students.

Latin for Children A, B, and C are each designed to be taught four or five days a week over the course of one year (one chapter per week, thirty-two chapters). A three-day-per-week Latin schedule may necessitate two years for completion.

Visual Learning

You can have the author teach this course for you or aid you in your teaching! In the Latin for Children DVDs, students will receive one-on-one learning with experienced Latin teacher and author, Dr. Christopher Perrin. Clear, whiteboard grammar lessons are given by Dr. Perrin from his cozy office. The actual text from the book appears on the screen as the material is presented, making it easy to follow along. Pronunciation will become a breeze! Each lesson (average 20 minutes) corresponds to the weekly chapter in the Primer and features the chanting and singing of vocabulary and paradigms along with clear grammatical explanations by Dr. Perrin.

Practice and Support!

Learning Latin doesn’t have to be dry and boring! With the engaging Activity Book, Chant CDs, worksheets, history readers, fun quizzes & tests, you’ll never be lacking for interactive. Students will ask to do their Latin when using our website HeadventureLand.com, where they can play Flash Dash games, compete with others, watch short creative bi-lingual videos that include their vocab words, and more. In addition our program offers a plethora of support with suggested schedules, bonus worksheets, basic and interactive Latin charts, free reader answer keys and printable flash cards.

Classical vs Ecclesiastical Pronunciation?

The Latin for Children series offers both! Both the Classical and Ecclesiastical systems are used for pronouncing the same Latin text. Ecclesiastical Latin, the Italianate pronunciation, is also known as Liturgical or Latin of the Catholic Church. Classical pronunciation attempts to follow the way the Romans spoke Latin and is also widely used in. Both dialects are really quite similar and either choice is a good one.
