Prerequisites: Algebra I, can be taken concurrently with Geometry, should be taken before Algebra II if student needs the support.

Credit and Grading: No credit will be given for this course and it is graded as Complete/Incomplete.

Course Description: This course is a non-credit group tutoring course that reviews the major concepts of Algebra; those that serve as a foundation for future math and science courses. The course will not only review the major concepts of Algebra but will also dive deeper into the concepts which, in turn, will broaden and deepen the students' mastery and retention. Each module will consist of a review of the module concepts and practice problems that gradually increase in difficulty. The overarching goal is that students master the concepts at an advanced level. Students will attend class once per week and should expect to commit 1-2 hours per week outside of class. Notwithstanding, parents, and students should manage their out-of-class commitment. The success of this course will be completely dependent on the student's effort and availability to commit to working practice problems outside of class. Students will receive a grade of Complete or Incomplete which is an indication of completing assignments and achieving the goal of advanced mastery. The concepts that will be reviewed are linear functions, solving systems of equations, polynomial operations and factoring, exponential function, radical and rational equations, quadratic functions, and statistics.

The course is a good fit for students who:

    • are at risk of not retaining their algebra learning during the Geometry year
    • would like to deepen and broaden their mastery of algebra
    • felt algebra moved too quickly and they didn't have time to deeply understand the concepts
    • would like to review algebra without the commitment of a full course or the stress of a grade
