Grade 4/5 Kit Includes:
Well-Ordered Language Level 2
The Well-Ordered Language curriculum presents the study of language in a way that appeals to a child’s inborn curiosity and desire to collect, gather, and order. The curriculum presents grammar in a clear, orderly way, while simultaneously seeking to cultivate a child’s wonder of language by presenting instruction in the context of narrative and language, attractive illustrations, and samples taken from classic children’s literature and poetry.
Students will not merely be able to identify the parts of a sentence, but also will understand how words behave in a sentence. As students see the components of language (the parts of speech) unfold before them throughout the Well-Ordered Language series, they will be able to apply their knowledge, gathering and arranging words to express their thoughts clearly and accurately.
The curriculum is designed for teachers and students to actively engage with each other and with the grammatical concepts in each lesson, using language skills—reading, writing, speaking, and listening—along with physical movement, songs, and chants. Through Well-Ordered Language’s unique, creative, and orderly method of analyzing the grammatical functions of the parts of speech, students will find the mastery of grammar achievable, meaningful, and delightful. Kit includes: Student Edition, Teacher's Edition, Extra Practice and Assessments (PDF), and Streaming Songs and Chants
Writing & Rhetoric
The Writing & Rhetoric series is a step-by-step apprenticeship in the art of writing and rhetoric, in which our students will serve as apprentices to the great writers and great stories of history.
Writing & Rhetoric Book 3: Narrative II (Student Edition) is the third book in this 12-book series. Narrative II exposes students to new genres of story, including historical narrative and legend. It includes a variety of culturally important examples. All of the skills practiced in Narrative I are extended and new skill sets are introduced, including identifying the difference between fact and opinion and learning to ask the five W's of a historical narrative: who, what, when, where, why.
Writing & Rhetoric Book 4: Chreia & Proverb Teacher’s Edition includes the complete student text, as well as answer keys, teacher's notes, and explanations. For every writing assignment, this edition also supplies descriptions and examples of what excellent student writing should look like, providing the teacher with meaningful and concrete guidance.
The word "chreia" (cray-ă) comes from the Greek word chreiodes (cray-o-dees), which means “useful.” It is a short essay or remembrance that praises the author of a saying or proverb and shows why the saying is useful. This book employs all the skills of the preceding books in the series and teaches students how to write a six-paragraph essay on the basis of a saying or an action. The thinking and exercises occur within the framework of the stories in this book, which include wonderful historical figures such as King Arthur, King Alfred, Lady Godiva, King Canute, Omar Khayyam, and more. These two books are the third and fourth in a series of 12 books that will train students over 6 years, starting in grades 4 or 5 and up. Kit includes: Books 3 & 4 Student Edition, Books 3 & 4 Teacher's Edition, Books 3 & 4 Streaming Audio Files.
