A one-semester course for grades 5 or 6 and up
Well-Ordered Language Level 3 is the third part in a four-level series that demonstrates that grammar is an engaging study that appeals to children's natural curiosity about words and language. It presents grammar in a clear, orderly way, while simultaneously seeking to cultivate children's wonder of language with instruction in the context of narrative and language, attractive illustrations, and samples taken from classic children’s literature and poetry. Through Well-Ordered Language’s unique, creative, and orderly method of analyzing the grammatical functions of the parts of speech, students will find the mastery of grammar achievable, meaningful, and delightful.
The carefully crafted pedagogy of this book helps students learn the mechanics of grammar while they also see the power of language unfolding before them as they learn to gather and arrange words to express their thoughts clearly and accurately. Students will not merely be able to identify the parts of a sentence, but also will understand how words behave in a sentence. This book is designed so that teachers and students actively engage with each other and with the concepts in each lesson by means of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Learning is reinforced by the singing of lively chants and songs that correspond to each chapter.
The previous level, Well-Ordered Language Level 2, aided students in mastering the eight parts of speech, along with prepositional phrases; compound elements; subject, object, possessive, interrogative, and relative pronouns; compound sentences; and relative clauses. Any student who has mastered these concepts should be prepared for Well-Ordered Language Level 3. In Book 3A, students will review and strengthen skills already learned while also being introduced to several new concepts. Students will also continue to develop their understanding of diagramming sentences, visualizing the grammatical relationships within increasingly complex sentences. Well-Ordered Language Level 3A (WOL 3A) will introduce students to:
- Sentence diagramming
- Four kinds of sentences (declarative, interrogative, imperative, exclamatory), principal elements, adjectives & adverbs
- Predicate verbs, predicate nominatives & predicate adjectives
- Prepositional phrases
- Personal pronouns
- Sensory linking verbs
- Indirect objects
- Interrogative pronouns
- Relative (adjectival) clauses
The Well-Ordered Language Level 3 & Level 4 Songs & Chants are lively tunes to help students learn grammar terms in an enjoyable and memorable way. Key terms and definitions introduced in previous books will be reviewed in each level. We recommend purchasing the Level 1 and Level 2 songs to accompany the Level 3 lessons.
Note: The WOL series consists of 4 levels, each containing a Book A and a Book B.

Customer Testimonials
“This year we used Well-Ordered Language (WOL) for our 3rd- and 4th-grade classes, and next year we will add it to our 5th-grade curriculum. As an administrator, I had searched high and low for a curriculum that truly fit our mission as a classical Christian school, and I had begun to think that in order to truly serve our students well I would have to begin working on creating a curriculum from scratch. The WOL program has been a wonderful surprise and a great gift to our academy. For students, WOL provides plenty of explanation, practice, and memorization in a context full of beauty, whimsy, and worthwhile language. We love the fact that every example comes from great poetry or stories that echo what we are already studying. For teachers, WOL gives excellent guidance, classroom wisdom, and tools for assessment and enrichment. I was delighted to hear that CAP has added teacher training videos to their site, and I can't wait to share them with my team. Thank you!” —Julie Dreher, Grammar School Head and 4th-grade teacher, Sequitur Classical Academy, Baton Rouge, LA
“Another reason I stopped by your booth was to see the new grammar curriculum—it’s enchanting! (I never thought I would use ‘grammar curriculum’ and ‘enchanting’ in the same sentence!!!) Just like the new Writing & Rhetoric program. Thank you for consistently producing materials that overflow with goodness, truth, and beauty!” —Julie E., homeschool mom
